Computation Service

The iC1 provides computing services to its more than 40 members and partners since nearly 20 years ago, which serves as a tool to carry out their research work.

PROTEUS, the so called service, comprises a set of computers connected by high-speed network running on GNU / Linux, which is known as Beowulf cluster. This architecture is particularly flexible for tasks of various kinds, and greatly facilitates maintenance.

This architecture is particularly flexible for tasks of various kinds, and greatly facilitates maintenance.

Some of the most relevant data about PROTEUS are:

  • it works 365×24 (every day of the year)

  • its use load is above 80% with frequent peaks 100%

  • as of February 2015, 750,000 jobs that have been run in it and they have consumed about 17.5 million hours of CPU (since July 2012)

  • technical features: ~ 13 TeraFLOPs, 2.8 Terabytes RAM, 46 terabytes HDD, 1,1k cores

Currently, we are working in an upgrade process to enhance the performance of distributed programs.
